
Cabinet has given approval for the creation of a Court Services Agency, in keeping with a commitment given by the Government in its election manifesto, as well as based on the recommendation of the Justice Reform Taskforce.

Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Senator Dorothy Lightbourne, is calling on all members of the justice system, to work together, in an effort to ensure that the challenges facing the system are adequately addressed.
"I want to make a special appeal, as I ask for the co-operation of every judge, the attorneys, court staff, everyone in the justice system, who will have a role to play, in ensuring that the new system runs smoothly," Senator Lightbourne emphasised, as she outlined the reforms to take place.

Technology To Be Introduced in Criminal Courts
Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Senator Dorothy Lighbourne revealed that at least three criminal courts are to be installed with multi-million dollar computer technology at the beginning of the Michaelmas Session.
The purpose of the new technology is to produce transcripts of evidence, which forms part of the Government’s 10 year Justice Reform Programme.
Minister Lightbourne made the disclosure at the official launch of the 3-day Regional Conference on the Media and the Caribbean Justice System, on Wednesday September 3, at the Hilton Hotel, Kingston.
“The Supreme Court has been wired up for that technology, the computers have been received by the Ministry and the software is already installed, and additionally, the Judge’s software has also been installed.
Minister Lightbourne is hoping that the new system will be installed in all court rooms, specifically those within the Criminal jurisdiction in the new legal year. Read More

The increase in the number of Judges on the Appeal Court and Supreme Court is now possible following the passage of the Judicature (Appellate Jurisdiction) (Amendment) Act and the Judicature (Supreme Court) (Amendment) Act, on Tuesday September 9, 2008 in the Houses of Parliament.
